Perú Selvatico dives into the raw, electrified sound of Amazonian cumbia, born deep in the Peruvian jungle far from the pull of Lima. Drawing on local rhythms, radio picked cumbia, and the surrounding landscape, bands began plugging in, trading accordions for guitars and synths as a new sound took shape. Fast timbales, sharp, wiry guitar lines and bright organ runs define the style, high energy, slightly psychedelic, and built to keep things moving. Equal parts dance floor and daydream. While much of it stayed local at the time, a handful of producers brought these bands to Lima to record. This collection pulls together key cuts from that moment, 18 tracks that capture a scene that grew in isolation, now finally getting a wider listen.
