Son Of Chi - We Carry Eden
Music From Memory present We Carry Eden, a new long form work from Son Of Chi. Split across two parts, it drifts through spoken word, field recordings and drones, folding in touches of dub, jazz, ambient and fourth world textures.
The project is the latest chapter for Rotterdam based Hanyo van Oosterom, whose history stretches from the early days of CHI through to Chi Factory. Following the passing of longtime collaborator Jacobus Derwort, Son Of Chi emerges as a continuation - closing the circle while opening something new.
The record moves in a slow, immersive flow, fragments come and go, while dubby basslines and percussion quietly anchor things underneath. Omar Ka’s voice runs throughout, drawing on West African storytelling traditions and tying the whole piece together.
Rooted in themes of nature, spirituality and oral history, We Carry Eden feels reflective but grounded.
