Gaoulé Mizik, Michel Laurent - Excursions in Gwoka Vol. 1

Regular price

A wonderful showcase of the deeply spiritual and soulful sound of Gwoka music. Originating from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, Gwoka is made up of seven distinct rhythms and comes with it's own unique, specific dance. The different rhythms identify to different social occasions, from weddings to baptisms to funerals, this sound is a true part of the identity of the people of Guadeloupe.

Here we have the late 80's Gwoka classic 'A Ka Titine' from Gaoulé Mizik, a staple party track and dancer's favourite, based on the driving toumblak rhythm which expresses love and happiness.

Kay Sazuki tops this one off with a hybrid, hypnotic, dub influenced remix sprinkled in cosmic magic.

Well good stuff that we highly recommend!
